US FTC Sues Hims & Hers for Sending User Health Info to Meta, Snap

On Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission sued Hims & Hers Health Inc in the Northern District of California, alleging the telehealth company shared sensitive user health data with advertisers and engaged in deceptive billing and subscription cancellation practices.
Regulators claim the company advertised "free" consultations and "Pay $0 today" on intake forms, then charged patients before they spoke to providers, while sharing sensitive health information with Meta Platforms and Snap Inc despite privacy promises.
Customer complaints cited in the lawsuit include one person charged $897 before speaking to a professional, while the company allegedly buried cancellation options behind an "Add/remove items from order" button that never used the word "cancel."
Shares of Hims & Hers Health plummeted more than 11% following the announcement, as the company denied the allegations as "baseless" and vowed to "vigorously defend" itself against claims it "contorts the law to try to manufacture claims."
"The FTC will not hesitate to act on behalf of consumers," said Christopher Mufarrige, Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection, emphasizing the agency's commitment to protecting sensitive health data and consumer choice.
