Frozen berries recalled in 33 states amid possible E. coli contamination
The recall covers additional Great Value and Trader Joe’s berry lots after traceback data linked them to an E. coli O145:H28 outbreak that sickened 17 people.
A Chilean fruit supplier expanded a recall of frozen organic berries on Friday, linking the products to an E. coli O145:H28 outbreak that sickened 17 people across the United States.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 17 confirmed illnesses in Florida and Georgia; six patients were hospitalized, but no one died, and the outbreak was declared over on September 21.
Recalled items include Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, Great Value Organic Blueberries, and Organic Mixed Berry Blend, with affected lot codes 6 031 01, 6 041 01, 6 019 01, 6 040 01, 6 163 01, and 6 051 01.
Walmart distributed Great Value products across 30 states, while Trader Joe shipped its organic mix to 26 states, creating widespread retail exposure across the United States.
Consumers should inspect their freezers for the specific lot codes; affected products must be discarded or returned to Walmart or Trader Joe's for a full refund.
