From retirement thoughts to grand slam, Twins’ Tristan Gray has had a wild few weeks
Gray beat out Ryan Kreidler and Orlando Arcia for a roster spot, then hit a grand slam in the Twins’ 10-4 win.
On Friday, Minnesota Twins infielder Tristan Gray hit a grand slam during the home opener at Target Field, breaking open a 10-4 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays.
At 30 years old and having played for six organizations, Gray beat out Ryan Kreidler and Orlando Arcia for the Twins backup infielder role during spring training.
Gray joined the Twins in January after spending most of his career with the Rays, having accumulated only 122 at-bats over three major league seasons since his 2017 draft.
Center fielder Byron Buxton praised Gray's effort, saying, "To be able to work that hard and finally get an opportunity and make the most of that, it's incredible."
The Twins started Simeon Woods Richardson on Sunday against the Rays while acquiring reliever Garrett Acton from the Miami Marlins and releasing left-handed pitcher Christian MacLeod.
