From Homemade Bouquets to Selling in Supermarkets: Family Opens Flower Shop After 20 Years
The family sells bouquets to 23 supermarkets and sources flowers from Lancaster vendors and partners in Ecuador and Miami.
The Baez family opened Rafaela Creations in Lancaster on Aug 23, fulfilling a long-time dream after years of hard work and community support.
Arriving in Lancaster from the Dominican Republic 20 years ago, the family started from scratch; Matilde Baez recalled feeling limited opportunities existed for new immigrants.
Today, the family supplies bouquets to 23 supermarkets across Lancaster, Harrisburg, York, and Hazleton. Matilde Baez said, "This space was formed petal by petal with our own effort."
The family sources flowers from local Lancaster vendors while conducting outreach in Ecuador and Miami. Selina Baez expressed pride in "representing Hispanics" through the venture.
Emphasizing community ties, Matilde Baez stated, "If it's not a friend, it's a neighbor. Hispanics always have that—a big heart and mutual support.
