70-Year-Old Man Rescued After Being Lost in the Wilderness for 6 Days
Search teams found the 70-year-old after a resident report and cell phone ping helped narrow the search, authorities said.
- On Independence Day, authorities rescued 70-year-old Rondy Packard from a remote wilderness area near Pine Flat Lake, California, after a six-day search following his June 28 fishing trip.
- Around 1 p.m. Saturday, a volunteer Air Squadron member spotted Packard's truck in an extremely remote area approximately 20 miles northeast of the lake. An hour and a half later, search teams found him near the vehicle.
- Because of the rugged terrain, a CHP helicopter hoisted Packard from the scene to safely transport him out of the area for medical treatment, concluding an extensive ground and aerial search by the Fresno County Sheriff.
- Currently receiving medical treatment, Packard is reunited with his family, whom Kathy Curits, lieutenant of the Fresno County Sheriff, described as "incredibly ecstatic."
