French town withdraws pop festival funding over Kneecap appearance
SAINT-CLOUD, FRANCE, JUL 17 – Saint-Cloud withdrew a 40,000 euro subsidy after concerns over Kneecap's pro-Palestine messages and controversial imagery amid ongoing police investigations, officials said.
- The Paris suburb authorities removed a €40,000 subsidy for Rock-en-Seine, after the Irish rap band Kneecap’s booking.
- Earlier this year, Saint-Cloud approved a €40,000 subsidy for Rock-en-Seine, but on July 3, the council decided to retract funding prompted by Kneecap's booking.
- British police investigation into Kneecap demonstrated controversies, including alleged Hezbollah flag display and pro-Palestine messages, amid Liam O'Hanna's investigation and police inquiries.
- The city added that it does not finance political action or calls to violence, and `on the other hand it does not finance political action, nor demands, and even less calls to violence, such as calls to kill lawmakers, whatever their nationality,` city statement said.
- The festival, scheduled for August 21–24, later this year, Kneecap are still set to perform on August 24.
