French hospital helicopter landings disrupted by illegal prison delivery drones
Emergency helicopter landings at Strasbourg University Hospitals have been suspended over the risk of collision with drones used to illegally deliver items to inmates in a nearby prison. The hospital says the resulting detour could be "life-threatening" for patients.
Since the beginning of August, the helicopter landing site of the CHU Hautepierre has been closed at night: drones deliver prohibited packages to the Elsau prison.
It's hardly a credible story: near Strasbourg, rescue helicopters can no longer take patients directly to the night hospital. Because of this, a risk of collision with clandestine drones that deliver parcels to a prison. Caregivers denounce the endangerment of patients.
In Strasbourg, drones used to smuggle detainees are now disrupting the operation of emergencies. For several weeks, medical helicopters can no longer land at night at the hospital in Hautepierre.
