France’s Digital Agency Dumping Windows Desktops for Linux
The shift is part of a broader push to reduce dependence on American software and build sovereign digital tools, officials said.
- The Interministerial Directorate for Digital Affairs announced last week that it will replace Windows desktops with Linux, marking a significant step in the French government's effort to reduce reliance on American technology.

- While the Linux transition is currently limited to the roughly 250-person DINUM agency, all French ministries must create plans for adopting non-American technology across eight categories, including artificial intelligence, databases, and network equipment.
- Minister of Public Action and Accounts David Amiel stated, "We can no longer accept that our data, our infrastructure, and our strategic decisions depend on solutions whose rules, pricing, evolution, and risks we do not control."
