Trump Rally Attendee Tells Fox News: "There’s Nothing Like Seeing a Cult"
A Fox News interview with a rally attendee turned awkward after he likened the event to Jonestown, with Trump due to speak soon after.
- On Thursday, a rally attendee stunned Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson by comparing President Donald Trump's South Carolina event to the 1978 Jonestown massacre during a live broadcast.
- Reporting from Rock Hill, Tomlinson noted that Fox News recently moved the South Carolina Senate race from "Lean R" to "Toss-Up" status, raising stakes ahead of the midterm elections.
- After Tomlinson asked about his attendance, the attendee identified as Tom replied he was too young for the 1978 Jonestown massacre and was glad for the opportunity to witness "a cult" up close.
- Nearly 1,000 people died in the 1978 Jonestown massacre, an extreme comparison the attendee invoked while Trump campaigned for Republican Senator Darline Graham ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
- Trump's appearance in Rock Hill aimed to bolster Graham's campaign against Democrat Annie Andrews, as the Republican Party seeks to maintain its congressional majorities in next week's election.
