US Army soldier accused of attempting to share tank information with Russia
EL PASO COUNTY, TEXAS, AUG 6 – Taylor Adam Lee, 22, sought Russian citizenship by attempting to share classified data on the M1A2 Abrams tank and armored vehicles, officials said.
- At Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, Army soldier Taylor Adam Lee was arrested Wednesday on charges of attempted transmission of national defense information and attempted export of controlled data.
- From May through present, Taylor Adam Lee held a U.S. Army Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance and stated that the information on the SD card was sensitive and likely classified, authorities say.
- In a face-to-face encounter, he passed an SD card containing documents on the M1A2 Abrams tank and combat operations during a July in-person meeting.
- In court filings, Lee appeared for the first time following his arrest, and Brigadier General Sean F. Stinchon warned, `This arrest is an alarming reminder of the serious threat facing our U.S. Army.`
- Amid growing concern over insider threats, FBI Counterintelligence Division Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky affirmed, `The FBI and our partners will do everything in our power to protect Americans and safeguard classified information.
