Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova suspended for 4 years for refusing an anti-doping test
The Czech former Wimbledon champion can appeal the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after an independent tribunal found she missed a December test.
On Monday, the International Tennis Integrity Agency suspended former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova for four years after she refused an out-of-competition drug test in December 2025.
Vondrousova cited "months of physical and mental stress" and fear for her safety when a tester arrived late at night without properly identifying themselves, leading to an "acute stress reaction."
An independent tribunal concluded there was "no compelling justification" for the refusal, noting that under anti-doping rules, refusing a test carries the same sanction as testing positive.
Effective immediately, the 26-year-old Czech is barred from playing, coaching, or attending events sanctioned by tennis's four major bodies until her suspension expires on June 21, 2030.
Vondrousova retains the right to appeal the decision to the Switzerland-based Court of Arbitration for Sport, though her legal team has not indicated whether they will pursue further action.
Marketa Vondrousova, Wimbledon winner 2023, is suspended for four years after a denied doping test. Her case again raises the question: How justice is punished in tennis?
