B.C. Boy Makes NHL Debut with Dallas Stars
Taylor played 10:44 in his first NHL game after a call-up from Texas and filled in for injured defenseman Kyle Capobianco.
On Thursday, 24-year-old defenseman Trey Taylor made his National Hockey League debut for the Dallas Stars against the Montreal Canadiens, receiving a solo rookie lap before the game ended in a 5-2 loss.
Following a lower-body injury to Kyle Capobianco expected to sideline him four weeks, Dallas recalled Taylor from the American Hockey League affiliate Texas Stars to bolster the defensive roster.
Head coach Glen Gulutzan eased Taylor into the game with 14 shifts, the lowest among Stars defensemen; the Richmond native recorded 10:44 of ice time, one hit, and an even plus-minus rating.
Before reaching the NHL, Taylor played for the Vernon Vipers and the Youngstown Phantoms, then developed through three seasons at Clarkson University before the Stars signed him as an undrafted free agent in March 2025.
With his debut complete, the 196-pound defenseman aims to establish himself permanently, leveraging his offensive touch demonstrated at lower levels to compete for consistent playing time with the big club.
