Erhan Arıklı, the former Minister of Public Works and Transport of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), who was dismissed by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel following the ship accident off the coast of Girne on August 30, made a statement regarding the accident. Arıklı said, "If I have made any mistake, if I bear any responsibility, I will not only resign, but I will even give up my position as a member of parliament."
