Former NBA Guard Monta Ellis, a 'Proud Mississippi Son,' Is Named Alcorn State's General Manager
Monta Ellis takes his first front-office role after a 12-year NBA career as Alcorn State seeks a reset from a 9-23 season.
On Friday, Alcorn State announced the hiring of former NBA guard Monta Ellis as general manager for the men's basketball program, marking his first front-office position at any level.
A Mississippi native who starred at Lanier High School in Jackson, Ellis played 12 seasons in the NBA with four teams, including a seven-year stint with the Golden State Warriors.
Ellis will oversee roster construction, recruiting strategy, transfer portal decisions, and NIL opportunities at Alcorn State, joining a program that finished 9-23 last season.
Athletic Director E. D'Wayne Robinson said Ellis brings "a championship pedigree and a wealth of basketball knowledge" to the school, providing credibility with future recruits and donors.
Ellis said he is "focused on bringing more attention to Alcorn State basketball," viewing the role as an opportunity to help overlooked student-athletes gain Division I exposure.
