Former Penticton Mayor, MLA Dan Ashton Joins Mayoral Race Against Incumbent
Ashton is one of two candidates so far, and nominees have until 4 p.m. Sept. 11 to file before the Oct. 17 election.
Former MLA Dan Ashton has officially joined the Penticton mayoral race, challenging current Mayor Julius Bloomfield for the city's top position.
Ashton served as Penticton mayor from 2008 to 2013 before spending over a decade as a provincial MLA in the region until 2024.
"I have had a fair bit of encouragement to return to public office," Ashton wrote, adding that retirement was not the "great friends" he expected.
As of Thursday morning, Ashton and Bloomfield remain the only two candidates, with a final deadline to file nomination documents at Penticton City Hall tomorrow.
The general municipal election is on Oct. 17, and Castanet will conduct interviews with all candidates after the nomination list is finalized.
