CHIPOTLE APPOINTS SABIR SAMI TO ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Sabir Sami brings more than 30 years of restaurant and consumer experience after leading KFC’s global operations and serving as its chief executive officer.
On Monday, Chipotle Mexican Grill announced that former KFC CEO Sabir Sami joined its board of directors effective immediately, bringing more than 30 years of global restaurant experience.
Chipotle is expanding its board to reassure investors and address concerns about activist scrutiny; investors have derided the brand as "slop bowls," while Sami provides dining expertise the board previously lacked.
Same-Store sales at Chipotle began to fall last year as high beef and labor costs pressured margins, prompting CEO Scott Boatwright to launch a turnaround plan dubbed "Recipe for Growth."
Sami served as KFC's chief executive officer from January 2022 to February 2025, overseeing global brand strategy and leading operations across Thailand, India, and Turkey.
With nearly 140,000 employees, the company operates over 4,200 restaurants as of June 30, 2026, across the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East.
