- Satya Pal Malik, the former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, passed away on August 5, 2025, in Delhi after battling a long illness.
- Malik began his political career in the 1970s with Charan Singh's Bharatiya Kranti Dal and later joined Congress, Jan Morcha, Janata Dal, and BJP over five decades.
- He served as MLA from Baghpat, twice as Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh, Lok Sabha MP from Aligarh , and governor of Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and Meghalaya.
- Malik was Jammu and Kashmir's governor from August 2018 to October 2019, when the Union government abrogated Article 370, ending the region’s special status and bifurcating it into two Union Territories.
- He concluded his tenure as the Governor of Meghalaya on October 4, 2022, marking the end of a long and distinguished career in public service.
