Former Ireland international Whelan named Livingston boss
The 42-year-old former Republic of Ireland midfielder takes over after Marvin Bartley resigned following Livingston’s relegation, with the club seeking a reset.
Former Republic of Ireland international Glenn Whelan has been appointed head coach at Livingston, tasked with leading the Scottish club following their recent relegation from the Scottish Premiership.
The 42-year-old replaces Marvin Bartley, who resigned from the club earlier this month after Livingston's relegation from the Scottish Premiership was confirmed.
Dubliner Whelan was most recently assistant manager at English League One side Wigan, where he previously served as caretaker manager following the departures of Shaun Maloney and Ryan Lowe.
Sporting director David Martindale said the search took time to find the right fit, noting, "We all feel there is real alignment between how Glenn approaches the game and how we want to do things."
Whelan expressed gratitude to the board, saying he is "delighted to have been given this opportunity" and eager to build a successful team that fans can be proud of.
