- The ANC in Gauteng paid tribute and extended condolences, with Acting Premier Jacob Mamabolo saying `Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of great loss` on Wednesday.
- His tenure as Health MEC included the Life Esidimeni tragedy, where 144 state mental health patients died, and an SIU report said 3P Consulting paid for property, flights, and a luxury spa treatment for Hlongwa and his wife Joeline Davids-Hlongwa.
