Beloved Pastor Dr. Steve Gaines Passes Away After Battle with Cancer

On Friday, John Steve Gaines, the former lead pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church, died, the church confirmed, marking the end of his public ministry at Bellevue.
Entering hospice was disclosed last week by the church, after Gaines announced a kidney cancer diagnosis in 2023 and stepped down to focus on his health.
Educated at Union University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Gaines pastored churches in Texas, Tennessee and Alabama before joining Bellevue in 2005.
Jeff Iorg, Executive Committee President and CEO of the Southern Baptist Convention, thanked God for Gaines' leadership and asked for prayers for Gaines' family.
Services will take place at Bellevue Baptist Church on Sunday, March 22, with visitation and funeral services to follow, per the church announcement.
