Former Disney star Debby Ryan says she sustained a 'life-altering' brain injury
Ryan said five prior concussions made her brain injury worse and left some symptoms unresolved after six months of treatment, she said.
On Tuesday, September 15, former Disney Channel star Debby Ryan appeared on the YouTube show Mythical Kitchen, revealing a 'life-altering' brain injury she sustained several years ago that left her unable to work for six months.
Ryan, who played Bailey Pickett on The Suite Life on Deck, explained she suffered five concussions before the final injury put her 'out of commission' for six months, requiring extensive neurological rehabilitation.
Variety reported the injury resulted in 'pre-incident Debby and post-incident Debby,' as the actress described 'sustained shaking over a minute of time' and worsened 'hellish' migraines.
Reflecting on her recovery, the actress credited her husband, Twenty One Pilots drummer Josh Dun, and felt 'really fortunate' to have an 'amazing team of people around' supporting her through the difficult period.
Although treatment helped, Ryan noted that 'some things just did not come back,' and bright lights, loud sounds, and busy environments remain difficult for her.
