Hundreds of firefighters are fighting in Greece for the second day in a row and 1,400 more are being mobilised in France
Hundreds of firefighters are fighting on Saturday in Greece for the second consecutive day against a major fire near Athens that killed one, and 1,400 others are being mobilised in France against a fire that has already covered 16,000 hectares and will not be controlled until Sunday evening.
Two days after the outbreak of a forest fire in southeast Athens, the fires have lost strength. Strong winds, however, make extinguishing work more difficult and constantly spark new fires.
According to media reports, although the fire department is likely to be largely in control of the situation, the wind is always causing new fires.
The authorities fear that the fire will spread due to the violent winds, up to 75 km per hour, announced this Saturday.
