Ford F-150, F-250 Recall Issued over Rear Camera Issue

Ford will update software for affected pickups after federal testing found an on-screen menu could partially block the backup camera image.

  • Ford is recalling 47,587 F-Series pickup trucks after discovering a software issue that partially obstructs the rearview camera image when drivers select reverse. The recall affects specific F-150 and F-250 Super Duty models.
  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that SYNC 4 software fails to dismiss the camera 'Views' menu when shifting into reverse, causing a persistent overlay that violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111.
  • Affected vehicles include 24,408 F-150s built between January 30, 2020, and December 22, 2023, along with 23,179 F-250 Super Duty trucks assembled between March 16, 2022, and June 1, 2026. These run software versions earlier than 2.4.12.
  • Ford will provide a free over-the-air software update to correct the error, though owners may also visit a Ford or Lincoln dealer for the fix via the OBD-II port. Both options are available at no charge.
  • Before remedy letters arrive, owners can verify their vehicle's eligibility using the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's online lookup tool. Official remedy notifications will be mailed between September 21, 2026, and October 23, 2026.
