Texas Extends Deadline for Flood-Related SNAP Replacement Benefits

On Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott announced that Texans affected by July flooding have until Aug. 3 to apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program replacement benefits for spoiled food.
At HHSC's request, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service approved extending the deadline for recipients impacted by the July flooding.
The extension applies to nine counties: Bandera, Blanco, Frio, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, Uvalde, and Val Verde. Recipients can visit a local HHSC office or submit Form H1855 by mail or fax.
Approved benefits will be added to Lone Star Cards within two business days of receiving a request. HHS Executive Commissioner Stephanie Muth said these funds help ensure "feeding their families is one less worry as they focus on recovering and rebuilding."
Governor Abbott stated, "This deadline extension through August 3 will help put meals on the table for those in need." The program underscores Texas's commitment to supporting flood-affected families during recovery.
