- On Thursday, nineteen-year-old Joao Fonseca reached his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal in Monte Carlo, defeating Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 6-2 in 73 minutes.
- Ranking as the youngest man to reach this stage in Monte Carlo since Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet in 2005, Fonseca is the first Brazilian to reach a Masters 1000 quarterfinal since Thomaz Bellucci in 2011.
- Building on narrow defeats to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner last month, the world number 40 produced 'superb tennis' defeating an opponent who had thrashed Daniil Medvedev 6-0, 6-0.
- Alexander Zverev, who dispatched Zizou Bergs 6-2, 7-5, will meet Fonseca for the first time in the quarterfinals while chasing his eighth Masters 1000 crown.
- Praising the Brazilian, Zverev noted 'I think clay is his best surface' and expects to play him frequently over the next couple of years on the ATP tour.
