Florida dog found at Long Island police station after months missing
Apollo was identified by a microchip after months missing, and his owner flew to New York to bring him home, officials said.
After months away, Apollo, a 13-year-old shih tzu mix, returned home to Ocala, Florida, after being found over 1,000 miles away at a Long Island police station.
Surveillance footage from April captured a white car stopping to pick up the dog, though authorities in Ocala initially lacked sufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges at the time.
Workers at a New York-based shelter identified Apollo after scanning his microchip, discovering he wore a name tag labeled 'Yuri.' "We actually found a picture of Apollo from Tuesday," said Josey.
On Friday, owner Nicholas Josey flew to New York to retrieve his pet, while authorities confirmed they would investigate if new information suggests criminal intent behind the disappearance.
The family plans to celebrate Apollo's 14th birthday in August, marking a joyful return after the dog's unexpected journey across state lines.
