Florida Democrat Kathy Castor holds House seat despite GOP redistricting
Castor won an 11th term after Republicans redrew the district to favor the GOP, with 97% of ballots counted, the Associated Press said.
On Tuesday, Florida Democrats Jared Moskowitz, Kathy Castor, and Pia Dandiya won their House races, defying expectations set by the Florida Governor Ron DeSantis-backed redistricting map passed by the Florida Legislature.
Aiming to flip competitive seats red, the Florida Legislature passed the redistricting map to bolster Republican odds in the House. The GOP gerrymander potentially became a "dummymander," failing to flip seats.
Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried told Mediaite, "We are holding all" of the Democratic congressional seats. The Associated Press, CNN, and The New York Times called victories for Moskowitz, Castor, and Dandiya with decisive margins.
Early voting data in Indiana and Kentucky showed Democrats running ahead of totals from two years ago. Party members remain cautious about reading too much into early results, recalling previous cycles.
Competitive races in Indiana's 5th Congressional District saw late-cycle investment, including nearly $400,000 from House Majority PAC for candidate Ford. Indiana Rep. Victoria Spartz faced volatility in the shifting environment.
