Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz wins reelection to U.S. House in Florida’s 20th District
The AP said she won a 12th term as voters backed her focus on affordability after redistricting reshaped the South Florida seat.
On Tuesday, Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz won reelection to represent Florida's 20th Congressional District, defeating Republican Brent Andersen in the race.
Wasserman Schultz sought the 20th District seat after GOP-led redistricting reshaped her previous 25th District, while the vacancy arose following former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick's resignation in April.
During the campaign, Black Democrats challenged her bid, arguing it undermined Black political representation; she defeated Cherfilus-McCormick in the August primary.
With 78 percent of the vote compared to 18 percent for Andersen, the former Democratic National Committee chair secured a 12th term in office, The Associated Press declared.
Andersen, a Republican businessman, campaigned on lowering property insurance costs, though the district remains home to a large Black voting population that has historically influenced regional outcomes.
