Flavio Bolsonaro Says Brazil Federal Police Asked for His Passports
On Monday, Federal Police officers ordered Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro to surrender his passports and barred him from leaving Brazil, citing an alleged ruling by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The restriction followed Sunday's presidential runoff, where incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defeated Flavio Bolsonaro with 51.7% of the vote; Bolsonaro has refused to concede, citing alleged irregularities in voting hour extensions.
Flavio stated the measure stems from remarks by his brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, who suggested on a podcast last week that the senator should flee Brazil if he lost the election.
Denying any intention to flee, Flavio denounced the passport order as "a clear attempt to intimidate me" in a social media video, vowing to comply and defend himself.
Authorities have not officially confirmed the order, which occurs amid high judicial scrutiny of the family; former President Jair Bolsonaro is currently serving a 27-year house arrest sentence for plotting a coup.
