Flavio Bolsonaro Says Brazil Federal Police Asked for His Passports
- On Monday, Federal Police officers ordered Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro to surrender his passports and barred him from leaving Brazil, citing an alleged ruling by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
- The restriction followed Sunday's presidential runoff, where incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defeated Flavio Bolsonaro with 51.7% of the vote; Bolsonaro has refused to concede, citing alleged irregularities in voting hour extensions.
- Flavio stated the measure stems from remarks by his brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, who suggested on a podcast last week that the senator should flee Brazil if he lost the election.
- Denying any intention to flee, Flavio denounced the passport order as "a clear attempt to intimidate me" in a social media video, vowing to comply and defend himself.
- Authorities have not officially confirmed the order, which occurs amid high judicial scrutiny of the family; former President Jair Bolsonaro is currently serving a 27-year house arrest sentence for plotting a coup.
