DARIALI BORDER CROSSING, RUSSIA-GEORGIA BORDER, AUG 5 – The five Ukrainians protest indefinite detention without consular access and demand medical care amid overcrowded conditions holding about 100 people, rights groups say.
- On August 6, 2025, five Ukrainian nationals at the Dariali border crossing launched a hunger strike, claiming denial of entry and inhumane conditions by Georgian border guards.
- Following deportations from Russia on June 21, Ukrainian detainees have been held since June 5 in a cramped, windowless basement at the Georgia border crossing.
- Amid reports of abuse, 97 detainees said guards used physical force and withheld food during a late July evacuation.
