First pictures of tragic mum who gardai believe died giving birth to daughter
Investigators believe the newborn died during labour, while post-mortem results are still pending for the mother and baby, police said.
On Friday, 33-year-old Monika Kubasiewicz and her newborn daughter were discovered deceased at their home in Blackthorn Close, Greenhill Village, Carrick-on-Suir. Gardai are treating the deaths as a medical tragedy with no suspicious circumstances.
Kubasiewicz had recently relocated to the area with her partner and two children, aged four and three, after living in emergency accommodation. The family previously operated a shop in Clonmel that closed during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
Investigators believe the mother and infant died several hours before their discovery, likely due to a medical emergency during childbirth. Post-mortem results scheduled for later this week should clarify the exact circumstances.
The Garda investigation currently focuses on preparing a file for the Coroner. Authorities have not publicly released post-mortem examination results, citing 'operational reasons' for the delay.
David Dunne, of Local Sinn, urged the public to avoid speculation, stating, "There has been a tragedy in Carrick-on-Suir." Prayers are being offered at local Masses for the family.
