Erica Laurinenen never dreamed of leading a fire and rescue service. After graduating from her degree in ecology, she looked for work in the profession, and at the Shalcinink fire and rescue service, she said, almost by accident. Ten years later, she runs a group of 40 people, but she does not speak of her own path as a personal success — much more likely to remember people who supported her and helped her to believe in herself.
