First Bus Offers Free Travel for Armed Forces Day This Weekend
Serving personnel, veterans and cadets can ride free with uniform, medals or ID to attend parades, ceremonies and community events, operators said.
Major bus operators, including Stagecoach and First Bus, are providing free travel this weekend for serving military personnel, veterans, and cadets. The initiative supports Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28.
Stagecoach Midlands Managing Director Mark Whitelocks and Stagecoach East Managing Director Darren Roe confirmed their fleets will provide free transport across Daventry, Banbury, Bedford, and Luton. This gesture aligns with the company's nationwide commitment to supporting the Armed Forces.
To redeem this offer, passengers must show the driver their Armed Forces identification card, MOD Veteran's Badge, or wear their uniform. Arriva noted that all travel is subject to service availability, vehicle capacity, and timetable restrictions.
First Bus Director of Customer Proposition Rob Pymm stated the initiative honors those who serve and remember lost family and friends. The operators also maintain support through the Armed Forces Covenant and programs on Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday.
Stagecoach partners with the Department for Work and Pensions to guarantee interviews for veterans and grows its internal Veterans Network. These initiatives recognize the valuable professional skills service leavers bring to the workplace.
