AAP Leader’s Brother Shot Dead, Friend Injured in Amritsar Village Attack
Police said four suspects are named in an FIR and raids are underway after the shooting, which left the victim’s friend injured.
- On Monday night, Tirath Singh, son of an Aam Aadmi Party sarpanch, was shot dead near a gurdwara in Amritsar district, Punjab. Assailants on motorcycles fired seven to eight rounds before fleeing.
- Tirath's mother serves as the village sarpanch for the AAP, while his brother, Karaj Singh, is an AAP block samiti member. This political affiliation positioned the family prominently in Punjab politics.
- Police registered an FIR naming four suspects—Gurdit Singh, Gurjant Singh, Harkirat Singh alias Haki, and Gora—all residents of the same village. Raids were underway to apprehend them.
- The family alleges the attack followed a drug dispute two days earlier, while police suspect an old enmity between Gurdit and Karaj prompted the shooting. Both theories are under investigation.
- Ranjit Singh, the victim's companion who was also shot, is reported out of danger following treatment. No arrests have been made as police continue investigating the killing.
