Fire risk forces St. John's to postpone Canada Day fireworks show

The City of St. John's says its Canada Day fireworks show has been postponed over the risk of fire.

Since that outlook has not changed, the display has now been cancelled outright. The city says the event cannot be rescheduled because of the significant coordination and logistical requirements involved.

Canada Day Fireworks cancelled in Metro region due to fire risk

The Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands has updated the fire hazard rating for the St. John's Metro region.The rating is now "high," which means fireworks are prohibited. This includes consumer fireworks.
