Fire Near vík in Mýrdalur

Firefighters are currently trying to extinguish a large wildfire on a slope below Háfell, not far from Vík í Mýrdal. Deputy Fire Chief Sigurður Gýmir Bjartmarsson says a large number of personnel have been called out and that the fire department is being assisted by firefighters from Kirkjubæjarklaustur and rescue workers. The fire is not close to a settlement and is therefore not considered to pose a threat to people or structures.
