Teen skater Heili Sirviö takes X Games gold in Salt Lake City
Fourteen-year-old Finnish skateboarder Heili Sirviö claimed her first gold medal at the X Games in Salt Lake City on Friday, winning the women’s park event with a score of 86.00. Sirviö opened the final with a solid 74.33 on her first run before improving significantly on her second attempt, which secured her the top spot. She did not complete her third run, but the earlier score was enough to hold off strong challenges from rivals.

Justin Dowell of Virginia Beach captured his first X Games gold medal Saturday, winning the Men’s BMX Park championship in Salt Lake City. The Princess Anne High graduate posted the two best scores in a competition where riders do tricks while negotiating an area including bowls, ramps, hips and halfpipes.
