FIA launches Audi investigation after Freddie Slater incident
Stewards are examining whether a cooling fan left in the R26 led to an unsafe release after the 18-year-old’s FP1 debut.
The FIA is investigating the Audi F1 team following Friday practice at the 2026 Mexican Grand Prix, focusing on a potential unsafe release of 18-year-old debutant Freddie Slater.
Stewards launched the inquiry after a cooling fan was discovered left inside the sidepod of Slater's R26, compromising his limited track time during the opening practice session.
Separately, Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson were summoned to a post-session investigation after their FP2 collision left debris on track and triggered a red flag.
Calling the collision "not very smart behaviour," Verstappen suggested Lawson should act with more care while fighting to secure a permanent Racing Bulls seat for 2027.
Uncertainty surrounds the Racing Bulls 2027 lineup, with Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Nikola Tsolov vying for two available seats as the team evaluates its driver roster.
