FIA launches Audi investigation after Freddie Slater incident
Stewards are examining whether a cooling fan left in the R26 led to an unsafe release after the 18-year-old’s FP1 debut.
The FIA is investigating the Audi F1 team following Friday practice at the 2026 Mexican Grand Prix, citing a potential unsafe release of 18-year-old debutant Freddie Slater during his FP1 debut.
Stewards launched the inquiry after a cooling fan was discovered left inside the sidepod of Slater's R26, an oversight that severely compromised his limited track time during the opening practice session.
Separately, Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson were summoned to a post-session investigation after colliding during FP2, which left debris on track and triggered a red flag at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Calling the collision "not very smart behaviour," Verstappen criticized Lawson, suggesting the New Zealander should act more carefully while fighting to secure a 2027 Racing Bulls seat.
Uncertainty surrounds Racing Bulls' 2027 lineup, with Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Nikola Tsolov all contending for the two available seats after Tsolov's FP1 appearance on Friday.
