In Germany, about 1,600 wolves live in a good 200 packs. In the northwest, there are so many that the Federal Government has reported a "favourable state of conservation" to the EU. Next, it wants to include the wolf in the hunting law.


The number of wolves in Germany has grown significantly, the German government reports. For the first time, it appears the wolf population can sustain itself, at least in the northwest of the country, which also borders the Netherlands. Berlin calls this a favorable situation for the protected species.
The wolf population is developing favourably almost everywhere in Lower Saxony. The Federal Government has noted this in a report to the EU. This could have consequences for the handling of the wolf.
