Federal government announces mining workforce alliance to build ‘talent pipelines’
The federal government announced a new industry-led mining workforce alliance to grow skilled workers in Canada's mining industry, as stated by Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hajdu in southwestern Nova Scotia.
The Mining Industry Human Resources Council will lead the alliance, supported by the Mining Association of Canada and involving employers, labour groups, post-secondary institutions, Indigenous partners, and under-employed groups.
Ottawa has allocated $81 million over five years for six workforce partnerships to address labour market challenges in the mining sector.
The main goal of the alliance is to create sustainable talent pipelines to grow the mining industry and support national infrastructure projects, enhancing Canada's economic independence.
