The U.S. Drug Regulatory Authority has approved a new treatment for adults with true polycythemia, a rare blood cancer in which the bone marrow produces excess red blood cells. It is the first authorised treatment in a new therapeutic class and is intended for patients for whom the disease is not adequately controlled by existing therapies.
