Supreme Court clears the way for Trump mail voting order in advance of midterms
On Monday, the Supreme Court cleared the way for President Donald Trump to move ahead with his executive order restricting mail-in voting, though it remains unclear how much his administration can implement before the midterm elections.
Signed in March, President Trump's executive order directs the federal government to compile lists of eligible voters and orders The Postal Service to deliver mail ballots only to people on those lists.
Under the new rules, States must submit voter lists to The Postal Service for every mail ballot, with each ballot tied to a unique barcode containing the voter's name and home address.
Lawyers from Democratic-run States sued to block the order, arguing President Trump lacks authority to change election regulations, while a federal judge in Boston froze the directive pending the Supreme Court's final action.
