FBI captures longtime fugitive in Honduras in connection with 2000 killing of Philadelphia girl

Alexis Flores was arrested in Honduras after over 25 years on the run for kidnapping and murder, linked by DNA evidence, FBI says.

  • On Wednesday, Alexis Flores was taken into custody in Honduras; FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrest related to the 2000 killing of 5-year-old I'riana DeJesus in Philadelphia.
  • Reported missing on July 29, 2000, I'riana DeJesus was found strangled on August 3 in an apartment where Alexis Flores had lived, but by March 22, 2007, Flores had been deported to Honduras after Arizona imprisonment.
  • The Transnational Anti-Gang Task Force led the arrest, and FBI Director Kash Patel said, `After more than 25 years on the run, this arrest shows that time and distance do not shield violent offenders from justice.`
  • The arrest enables U.S. authorities to pursue prosecution tied to the 2000 killing of the 5-year-old and comes amid recent FBI Most Wanted arrests of Alejandro Rosales Castillo and Ryan Wedding.
  • Flores appeared on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list until March 2025, after which he was removed following a bureau program review, with authorities first linking him to the case after his 2004 Phoenix arrest.
