The municipalities in Wallonia are too numerous and, more importantly, too small to take over the provinces' responsibilities when they disappear in 2030, as the region plans to do. This is according to Bert Kruismans, author and Wallonia expert. "During the floods in the summer of 2021, it was very clear that the municipalities couldn't handle it; they're far too small."
