Farage Says He Missed Budget Over Fear of Commons Conflict
Commons officials said Farage’s seat card lacked a valid date stamp, while he said he stayed away to avoid another confrontation.
On Wednesday, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage skipped Chancellor John Healey's Autumn Budget speech in the House of Commons, citing fear of 'potential conflict'.
Farage claimed he feared a 'physical altercation' with an MP, citing a confrontation at the State Opening of Parliament earlier this year.
Alleging his prayer card was 'removed,' Farage watched the Budget with economists, joking he is a 'very quiet, shy, modest kind of person'.
Conservative MP Alicia Kearns called the excuse 'total bull,' noting available seats existed and dismissing his justification for missing the event.
During a subsequent briefing, Farage and Treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick characterized the Budget as 'a retail Budget aimed at an early general election' hiding economic reality.
