- The FAO Vegetable Oil Price Index jumped 5.9% to its highest level since July 2022, driven by the Iran war and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupting global supplies.
- Beef prices hit a new peak as Brazil struggled with tight supplies of slaughter-ready cattle, while the FAO Meat Price Index climbed 1.2% to 129.4 points and the FAO Cereal Price Index rose 0.8%.
- Offsetting these gains, the FAO Sugar Price Index fell 4.7% due to favorable weather forecasts for ample supply in Brazil, China, and Thailand, while the FAO Dairy Price Index dipped 1.1%.
- FAO chief economist Maximo Torero said elevated energy costs are driving demand for biofuels made from organic materials, though global agri-food systems are showing resilience despite war-linked disruptions.
