In his debut at the championship in the four-sport event, the nineteen-year-old Czech representative moved up to the silver position by winning the final 10,000-meter race, in which he became the Olympic champion in Milan in February. Nikola Zdráhalová was tenth, the titles were won by Norwegians Sander Eitrem and Ragne Wiklund.
