Fans from Germany charged with assaulting officers at Toronto Stadium: police
Police said two German men were charged after officers were struck by thrown items and suffered minor injuries during the match.
Two men from Germany were arrested and charged with assaulting a peace officer at Toronto Stadium during a FIFA World Cup match on Friday.
Police responded to reports of "disruptive persons" in the stands at about 2:10 p.m., leading to an altercation when officers attempted to remove a fan from the venue.
During the struggle, items were thrown at officers when they attempted to eject a fan, and two officers suffered minor injuries before additional police arrived to control the situation.
Associated with a Bosnian fan group, the two men face charges for assaulting a peace officer and are scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
The match between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, while police urge anyone with information about the altercation to come forward.
